All About Me
On November 21, 2020, I declared my intention to seek a position as Village Trustee in the Sugar Grove consolidated elections to be held on April 6, 2021.
Sugar Grove has been my home for almost 21 years. I have maintained a happy 23 year marriage and am raising three children here. I have also continued to uphold heavy participation in the Sugar Grove community.
I was instrumental in the creation of the Kaneland John Shields Beautification Committee where I held the position of chairperson for four years, and was the focal point for the fundraisers by bringing in almost $12,000. I dedicated many hours to the maintenance and development of the grounds around John Shields by which I organized and found volunteers, to join me and my family, for seasonal clean-ups and plantings, adding further beauty to the school and its neighborhood.
Furthermore, I organized the social media “NO DUMP” campaign on the Village of Sugar Grove’s Facebook page where I advocated against the concrete-asphalt recycle plant that was proposed to be across the street from Kaneland Harter Middle School. On top of that, I was heavily involved in the “NO WAREHOUSES” campaign advising against the proposed Crown development on Route 47 and I-88, all the while being mindful of the village’s desire to grow in order to further its tax base. Had Crown been more flexible with hearing constituents, and having some flexibility for other plans, I would have been more open to hearing alternate ideas.
My experience with the Sugar Grove Park District helped bring the Kite Festival to Sugar Grove for the first time.
I also coordinated a three year book and toy drive for the Sugar Grove Food Pantry. In doing so, I was able to help Sugar Grove residents who were in need of new books and toys for their children and grandchildren during the holiday season.
For three additional years, I assisted with the planning, organizing, and fund raising of the Kaneland John Shields “Daddy-Daughter Dance”.
Kaneland Harter’s Youth Orchestra was also an idea implemented by myself and Sonya Hwang by bringing it to the superintendent of Kaneland as we sought it as an additional necessity. The President of the Kaneland Youth Orchestra, Sonya Hwang stated;
“Rachel is never afraid to step in when she sees a need in the community. She wanted to bring fine arts to the community and she acted on it… Kaneland Youth Orchestra would not be what it is today without her assistance. We will forever be grateful to her contribution.”
Following at Marmion Academy, I served as the Senior Class Mom for the 2017 graduating class.
Continuing, for one year I served as the Social Committee Director for the Windsor Pointe HOA.
Additionally, I served six years on the HOA Board for Hannaford Farms and was responsible for developing and maintaining contractor relationships, negotiating contracts with the eight to ten contractors involved in the upkeep and restoration of all Hannaford Farms properties which included the Hannaford Farms’ staple, the Barn.
I have spent many years building, organizing, and fundraising, that experience along with my tenacity, drive, and strong character have shown my ability to be a strong leader in Sugar Grove. My many positive characteristics have also proven that I am someone who is willing, and able, to work with different people and personalities successfully in order for the community to benefit.
